"Man-made objects obtain the right of existence only through the interrelation with human beings, be it by their appreciation, negligence or destruction. An object, being planned, built and somehow loved by its creator, or later owner, becomes part of one's life. Sometimes it is handed on through changed circumstances and its use becomes different. So it is with the red chest of drawers, at one time containing the silk stockings of a beautiful lady waiting for her lover, another time being the centre of an intellectual circle of people. Artists have it in their studio becoming part of a painting with a fish on newspaper. Or perhaps a travelling tradesman takes it with his goods to the market. As long as it has its use it has an importance and if only to reflect another life in the broken mirror. The same applies to human beings themselves, we will always need a relation with somebody or something, without that we cannot communicate and without communication there is no development."
