1006: Arucad Artspace in the heart of Old Nicosia
8/4/2018

ART AND CIVILIZATION ARE ONE said Erbil Arkin on the occasion of the opening of Arucad University two years ago in Girne and true to his own motto he has continued to extend the many possibilities of education in art and culture by adding a new space, the ‘Arucad Artspace’. A space for exhibitions of the works done in the various disciplines of  Arucad University, be it painting, graphic, film making, or be it  discussions, workshops, arts in residence and so on.

It is a beautiful place, right behind the Saray Hotel in the Müftü Raci Efendi Sokak No. 48, the basement of an old beautiful building, a modern design, clear and open.

To celebrate this very special occasion the ‘new and original works by Tim Brennan’ were shown and the artist was present. A very delicate and thought provoking exhibition …. movement is the way to life and art…with the two facts of birth and death …. That is the impression I had. I am attaching an introduction to his life work and his philosophy.

Many guests from the local art scene were present and enjoyed the buffet set up in the street and with the finally refreshing wind it was a most enjoyable evening.

Conceptual, Performance, Photography, Curating, Theoretical

Tim Brennan (PhD) has exhibited internationally over the last 20 years. His practice is not limited to any one media and has incorporated performance, object making, curating and teaching. Over the last 2 decades he has developed a methodology based on the guided walk and conversation as art, which he refers to as the manoeuvre. This activity is built on academic research to form new imaginative reflections upon the ways in which we ‘do history’. He has been described as one of the most important practitioners to contribute to the social and political role of contemporary art. Brennan is Head of Arts & Design at the University of Sunderland.
