If
someone had told me two years ago that one day we would have first-rate
classical concerts in this area of the island I would never have believed him
and I would perhaps not have sold the house in Yeşiltepe. It proves again that to
have high quality musicians come to the remotest places does not require a big
music hall, it requires people who are inventive, courageous and music lovers
themselves who take some risk to establish a niche of the kind of The Soulist, a
niche for good music, for Jazz, Rock and Pop and now classical music, it takes
the owner and musician Alper Cengiz and friend Roland Eyerich.
For
some time now I have been watching the development of this small Coffee and
Music House, I saw well known jazz musicians on their programmes, and I would
have loved to go and see for myself the place but at my age 10 o’clock is just
too late for me, so when I saw the invitation for the classical concert on Sunday,
Nov 25, at 18.30 hrs., I thought this is the opportunity to get to know the
place.
More
than 80 people found seats in the coffee and bar room, with seats on the
balcony. It reminded me of the great small music places in New Orleans with
concerts at night but also on Sundays, brunch concerts of first quality.
Now
here a Sunday concert with very fine musicians I have had the chance to listen
to before in other concerts, Atakan Sari, piano, and Mehmet Sakarya, flute. A
great programme, please find it attached hereunder, and the musicians’
biographies as well. A well balanced programme set to demonstrate the touching
beauty of flute. My very personal impression… it would not have needed the
microphone.
Roland
Eyerich’s comment, whom we know from BRT ‘Blues and Rock Show with Roland’ on
Sunday evenings from 9 to 10 pm: It was a great concert, great
audience and The Soulist has once again shown how musically wide it is set up.
Blues, Blues Rock, Rock, Reggae, Jazz, Rockabilly or Latin. Alper Cengiz a
musician and the owner of the Soulist always strives to offer good quality
music. The Soulist is always a place for good music…”
Let us see what is next on The
Soulist’s programme…
