We have just about finalised our programme of events for our Pink October month. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month across the whole World and Tulips/Help Those With Cancer Association want to participate again this year in not only raising funds for our charity but more importantly to raise awareness about all Cancers and what our Association can do to help.
Sue and I will be out and about during the whole of October, running events, attending events run by others, selling Pink raffle tickets and generally available to answer any questions that people have about Cancer in the TRNC, at the same time we want people to have fun, fun, fun.........
We are kicking off on the 1 October with the first of our weekly "Sail for Tulips" event. Every Wednesday during October you can go along to Sardunya Bay and learn how to sail, kayak or paddleboard and 50% of all fees charged will be going direct to Tulips. On Sunday 5 October we are holding our Cryptic Car Treasure Hunt. This will be started by the lovely Denise Phillips - BRT's Radio Angel and registration is 10 a.m. at Baris Park Cafe with a 10.30 a.m. start. If you wish you can pre-register in advance and book a Doner Kebap for your well deserved refreshments on your return or just turn up on the day. This will be a fun event but will not take you any further than Hos Bes Supermarket in Lapta and Sultans Restaurant in Catalkoy and all participants must return by 3.30 p.m. at the latest. On Monday 6 October we are asking as many people as possible (individuals or businesses) across the whole of the TRNC (locals and ex-pats) to hold a "Pink Coffee Morning" (as the Macmillan Nurses Trust do in the UK). Just get together, have cake and coffee and make a difference to someone who has Cancer. Poster attached for further information.
On Thursday 16 October at Jessic's Bar and Restuarant in Karisiyaka, Mus has very kindly agreed to hold a Charity Auction, also a Raffle to win A Crate of Carlsberg (20) or Crate of Efes (24) and loads of other prizes. Fish and Chips or Chicken Goujon & Chips will be available on the night for a bargain price of just 22TL, with 5TL from each meal being donated to Tulips. Anyone that has any new unwanted or unused items that we can auction for Tulips, could they please deliver them to Jessics by Tuesday 14 October. Poster attached for further information.
On the 20 October Raziye Kocaismail, President and Founder of the Association will be having a Pink October march to the Government offices, to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. This is an event she runs every year for Pink October and everyone is welcome to go the kyrenia Gate, Lefkosa by 10 a.m. to join in.
Our biggest event (we hope!) is going to be on Friday 24 October when we will again (as we did last year) have a "Wear it Pink Day" across the whole of the TRNC. We will be asking the schools, businesses and general public to grab something Pink and Wear it on that day and donate 5TL to Tulips. We will be selling Pink on Black T-Shirts and Black on Pink T-Shirts for 12TL each in advance of this event if people wish to purchase them. However anything pink is allowable, from hair ribbons to socks or wigs! Please see attached Poster for pictures of these and more information.
We are also putting together a programme of Health/Motivational talks which will be held at the Pia Bella Hotel on a Wednesday or Saturday morning during the course of the month, which people can pay 10TL to attend and at the same time get help and information on Reflexology, Reiki, Stop Smoking & a Nutrional talk at the Food Lodge (6th October 2014).
During the course of the month at all these and other events Sue and Carole will be selling "Pink Raffle Tickets" (the printing of these are being sponsored by Near East Bank) with prizes of a Dishwasher, 2 all inclusive hotel breaks, return flight to Turkey, vodaphone Smartphone and more...... Tickets are only 5TL each and will also be available at our Stall at Chateau Lambousa on a Saturday morning and the 2 Best Seller Book Stores in Alsancak and Karakum.
Other businesses have already started to approach us with a view to holding their own Pink October events and we will obviously publicise these closer to the time.
A lot of information here, but it would be really good to get a heads up in the press on these events and then we can drip feed them in one at a time nearer the dates, so we are very much hoping you will support us and give us as much publicity as possible to make PINK OCTOBER A MONTH TO REMEMBER......
