In
times when uncertainty, fear and mistrust spring up like weed we cannot
control, it is most important that counter actions are taking place to rebuild trust
and cooperation. Artists of all disciplines can and must do their part to it
and set an example. They are in many ways supporting the diplomatic services of
their countries.
For
two decades approximately, artists around the world are communicating and
working together moving with their activities, workshops, exhibitions, and so
forth from one country to the next, exchanging ideas and introducing their
culture to each other.
On
19 September such an exhibition opened at the Art Gallery Cyprus.com in Nicosia
with eight artists who have worked together and met each other before in Cyprus
or their country respectively. In the order of the alphabet….
Ahmet
Erman Karagöz (TRNC)
Avijit
Mukherjee (India)
Bedia
Kale (TRNC)
Emine
Tokmakkaya (Turkey)
Mehmet
Oflazoğlu (Turkey)
Ipek
Denizli (TRNC)
Palash
Paul (India)
Sheeren
Elbaroudi (Egypt)
Ipek
Denizli, having been the curator of some women artists workshops in the TRNC,
has also curated the present one. It is also her view that working together and
visiting each other creates understanding and appreciation.
It
is a pleasure to visit a professional gallery, one of the very few ones in the
TRNC, where the service around art is complete including the technical side of
framing. See Ahmet Kale’s facebook site https://www.facebook.com/ahmet.kale.5268
Paintings,
graphic work, photography are on display by the eight artists who were not all
present but had their work sent to Cyprus. I have taken some pictures when I
visited the opening, one evening before my own exhibition in Nicosia.
