We must not wait for others to do our job as members of society

TOPARLANIYORUZ – The Movement (Let’s join hands and get the boat afloat) for a Clean Society has started a campaign which works in two directions: Awareness of environmental protection and the support of the Orthopedic Society for the acquisition of wheelchair. The idea behind is to show:  ‘with little means a lot can be done if all help together’.

One of the voluntary assistants of the movement, Figen Inan, explained: In North Cyprus we have put up baskets at 46 places where everybody can bring his/her collection of blue caps to, see the list below. The baskets are marked with the logo and the name of the movement. They will be brought to the Centre of the Movement and from there they are collected by a local recycling company for TL 1,20 TL the kilo; with the money obtained, new wheelchairs will be purchased for the Orthopedic Disabled Society.  In this campaign we have the cooperation of Evrim Tolga and Neslihan Basaran.

All communities are being very helpful;  the call for this campaign has even reached London where they have started to collect as well.

On the occasion of Figen Inan’s art exhibition “Movement” in December 2012 in Nicosia, TOPARLANIYORUZ has already handed over the first wheelchair to the Society for the Orthopedic Disabled Persons; I have reported in Cyprus Observer Issue 44. The sale of my paintings brought an extra of TL 2.750 of which TL 520 were given to the Orthopedic Disabled Society in cash.

I have interviewed Dr. Kudret Özersay, the man behind the movement and will soon bring my article to the attention of our readers on my website and in Cyprus Observer in one of the next issues.
