 When you come to Sevcan’s house, normal things receive a completely different dimension, you enter an area with an atmosphere which is beyond people’s everyday life, it is a place where you breathe and behave differently because you can be yourself; four dogs may run wild in the huge parklike garden, some old clay people sit on benches in the shade of some bushes and talk to each other and seemingly enjoy the day. Doors and windows are wide open and from that angle you see that the spacious living room is occupied by quite a number of people of all ages, they sit on chairs, on the apricot-coloured sofa, they slouch on the split level steps, they stand in corners in groups. Then, having come inside, you have to push some hanging plants to the side because everything is allowed to grow and exist in this house. I touch the various old acquaintances on the shoulder or touch their face and they grin at me and somehow also talk, people caught in a happy moment and now frozen for eternity.  There is a new inhabitant in the house standing next to the kitchen counter, it is old Dr. Fazil Küçük with a cup of Turkish cup in his hands

We sit down, we are not alone, and we talk about the passage of time, what have we done or not, what are our plans and Sevcan tells me the sad news that her beautiful sculpture of Bener Hakki Hakeri that was positioned a year ago opposite Ledra Palace in Nicosia, was destroyed by two young drunk people; they were found and arrested; “later”,  she told me with a sad smile, “they called me and said that they were sorry and they would do everything to help her make a new one….  I will make them come”, she continued, “and I will make them clean the house, the garden, do the cooking, take the dogs out, clean the car, and so on, while I am working on the new statue, all the works I normally do when I do my art work, I am a woman and cannot retire to my atelier and work in peace and silence, I have house work to do….yes, and that I will make them do until the new statue is finished.”

Sevcan has not started yet and I am going to see her when she is working on it, and the boys are taking over house wife duties…. Here the link of the inauguration about a year ago:

There is a new project, a music project, with Aytunç Akdoğu (Gommalar Cover Band); a musical story and she will be doing the singing part; Sevcan has a beautiful voice, listen to a song she did some time ago with the same composer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHaLkRqbAeE

And while I say goodbye to her and her numerous clay family, the sound of her song follows me up to my car.
