ÖZDEN

and
exhibition of her paintings at the
Atatürk Cultural Centre 09-14 April, 2018
By
Heidi Trautmann
Her
granddaughters Yagmur and Eylül, what charming names, had brought their
saxophones and serenaded their grandmother on this special occasion. It is
quite a while ago that Özden Selenge went public with new work. Here is the
link to her last event and book launch where you will learn the details of her
life and philosophy.

To
the opening of this year’s event many of her friends had come and HE Mustafa
Akinci and his wife Meral had come to congratulate her, also Prime Minister Tufan
Erhürman, and both men seemed to have a
very special relationship to her as they both hugged her with affection. Özden
Selenge, I met her often, first for my interview with her for my book ‘Art and
Creativity in North Cyprus’ and for all her events that followed. She has a
very special charm to speak to people and also on this evening she entertained
her audience with humour and stories, so they more than once shook with
laughter.
We
went along the new creations of hers which show this special touch of mystery,
collages with handmade paper and along with it she uses dried plants and
flowers and adds them to the drawings, fairy tales of her own making.
Legends,
souvenirs, nights spent under the moon with the calls of the owls. Stories with
symbolic paintings to illustrate the stories in her new book.
The
paintings are on display in the upper small exhibition hall and can be viewed
until 14 April during governmental office hours.
