The Toros Group present the paintings of Jan Quayle and Hilary Jemal - you are invited to the private viewing of their exhibition at the Toros Opel Plaza, Lefkosa on Wednesday 20 May at 7pm. Drinks and Canapes. The pictures will be sold in aid of Help those with cancer Association. (A small map is enclosed). The Exhibition will consequently be open from Thursday 21st May - 23rd May from 10am - 4pm.
Finally Jan Quayle and Hilary Jemal have decided to make a step forward and show their paintings to the public in a larger scale exhibition.
I had asked them for some information on their roads through life and on their art work in order to understand their paintings better.
Jan Quayle studied in England at the Norwich Art School completing the 3 year foundation course specializing in fabric design and printing. Jan told me a little about her learning years, the techniques which are so different to today’s.
She subsequently opened her own interior design company in London and Sussex which she ran for over 20 years with many well known public figures as her clients.
Her daughter continues the tradition with her own company and is an international designer in London.
Jan has owned a house in North Cyprus for over 30 years and has a deep love of the country which is depicted in many of her paintings.
Her work has been exhibited in the Usher Gallery Lincoln, Sussex and Cyprus.
She is married to the actor John Quayle.
Hilary Jemal is married to a Turkish Cypriot and has been living in Northern Cyprus for thirty years. She trained in art in London and when her life took her to the United States she worked mostly in illustration and portraiture. She continued to work after she moved to Northern Cyprus and has had several exhibitions. Her favorite subjects are people and she finds plenty interesting subjects here in Cyprus and in Turkey. For the last few years she has been specializing in portraiture setting up a web site: www.portraitsbyhilary.com or info@portraitsbyhilary.com - she has sold her work locally and internationally. For about twelve years she wrote and illustrated the weekly restaurant review for the local English speaking Newspaper - Cyprus Today, bringing out three editions of a restaurant guide and illustrating several books.
