24 - Workshop of the North Cypriot Ceramists Association – Review
4/6/2009

It was one of those beautiful days in late spring, everything looked so nice, clean and polished. Along the roads yellow waves of mimosa and everywhere it smelt of nature finally being saturated. This morning of April 4 I drove up to Edremit where on the grounds of the village church the Ceramicists Association had invited everybody to come for a workshop; and they had come, children and adults to try their hand at forming either by hand or at the wheel, later the results were put out for drying on top of the wall. On another table people were shown how to glaze the ware and later how to load the kiln for raku firing. Members of the association were everywhere to assist the willing and amateur ceramists. It was very exciting for everybody to watch the finished raku ware to be taken out with long tongs; it all looked like the meeting of magicians and witches.

The following days the professional artists will create their own works to be ready for the exhibition opening on April 14. See under cultural events.
