Inci Kansu and Feridun Işıman
Building a bridge of art between Japan and Turkey/North Cyprus
By Heidi Trautmann
More and more our artists are turning their head towards other countries where their art works are well recognized. It has become a common practice to exhibit in Turkey, in order to share experiences with artists in Istanbul; especially in this year 2010 with Istanbul being the capital of culture, it is a wonderful experience for our artists, although we miss them here on our island.
For some years now invitations to join exhibitions in far away countries have become more frequent, and it is most exciting to learn the state of the arts there. In April our renowned artists Inci Kansu and Feridun Işıman have participated in a group exhibition in the Ortakoy Art Gallery in Istanbul together with Turkish artists Figen Batı, Berna Erkun, Hulya Botasun, Ahmet Ozel, Mufit Isler, Esref Yılmaz.
From there, the exhibition with the same group of artists will migrate to join the “Kake Hashi (Bridge) Exhibition” in October in Nagoya in Japan under the auspices of the Kaze Plastic Arts Association. All works sent in will be kept in the art collection of the association.
The artists as Ambassadors, what a success for us to have their works seen by many people and then be kept for many centuries to come. I am sure that so many an ambassador would not mind a success just as great.
