Sidestreets, in collaboration with the Embassy of Denmark in Cyprus,

is pleased to present two evenings of

award-winning films from the Danish Film Institute.

 

A total of 6 films will be shown at two separate screenings. The first screening will include 5 short films and the second screening will be a feature film. All films are in Danish with English subtitles.

(1) Chloe likes Olivia 2011 (19 minutes)

“Chloe Likes Olivia” is a lesbian chamber play. Olivia brings Chloe home after a night out. Chloe is in love with Olivia, but Olivia is in a relationship with Andrea, who is waiting at home. A love triangle unfolds during a short time and forces Olivia to make a choice: When is enough actually enough?

(2) Peaceforce – 2010 (19 minutes)

Set in the near future, in a world where capitalism has run its course, Daniel, a young Peaceforce officer meets Jesper, a prominent local citizen, who claims that an elephant is running amok in the city, killing people. Speared on by idealism, Daniel decides to follow Jesper deep into the heart of a desolate city, believing he can make a difference helping the wounded and dealing with the elephant. Not long into his mission Daniel discovers that he's in way over his head.

(3) Berik – 2010 (19 minutes)

A short drama about friendship and understanding, which takes place in Semey, Kazakhstan. Berik, 33, blind and deformed due to radiation poisoning, spends his days at home alone while his brother is at work. That is, until Adil, 11, the smallest and least popular of the kids in the apartment block, turns up on Berik's doorstep looking for the local bully’s football, which he has lost.

(4) 7 Minutes in the Warsaw Ghetto – 2012 (8 minutes)

The Warsaw Ghetto, 1942. Samek, an eight-year-old boy who is naughty and full of life, peeks through a hole in the ghetto wall and sees a carrot lying on the sidewalk just on the other side. He tries to pull the carrot through the hole with a piece of wire, unaware that two SS men are posted nearby and are following his every move.

It’s Emma’s 13th birthday and she is visiting her father. He’s not at home but his boyfriend is. Emma hasn’t met him yet and the situation is uncomfortable for both of them. A film about not being seen by your parent who is busy with a new life.

(6) In a Better World    2010 (119 minutes)

The story traces elements from a refugee camp in Africa to the grey humdrum of everyday life in a Danish provincial town. The lives of two Danish families cross each other, and an extraordinary but risky friendship comes into bud. But loneliness, frailty and sorrow lie in wait. Soon, friendship transforms into a dangerous alliance and a breathtaking pursuit in which life is at stake.

Danimarka Filim Enstütüsü Filimleri Geceleri’ne sizleri bekliyor.

 

Sidestreets’in rahat ortamında, 5 kısa film ve 1 uzun metrajlı film olmak üzere, dört gösterim  gerçekleştirilecektir. Tüm filmler Danimarkaca ve İngilizce altyazılıdır.

“Chloe Olivia’yı Beğeniyor”, bir lezbiyen oda oynudur. Akşam eğlenceden dönerken

Olivia, Chloe’u evine götürür. Chloe, Olivia’ya aşıktır. Fakat Olivia, onu evde bekleyen Andrea ile ilişki yaşamaktadır. Burada, kısa bir süre içerisinde bir aşk üçgeninin geliştiğini görürürüz.  Olivia zoraki bir seçim yapmak durumunda kalır: Yeterlilik ne zaman gerçekten yeterlilik eğlemektedir?

(2) Peaceforce 2010 (19 dk.)

Yakın bir gelecekte kapitalizmin dünya üzerinde gösterdiği etkiyle kurgulanmış bir zaman. Genç bir barış çalışanı olan Daniel, kentin içerisinde bir filin dolanıp insanları ölürdüğünü söyleyen, ve  iyi bir statusü olan Jesper ile tanışır. Idealist Daniel, yaralılara yardım etmek ve fil ile başa çıkmak uğruna, Jesper’i kentin kalbine doğru takip etmeye başlar. Ama çok geçmeden Daniel, başından aşkın bir işe giriştiğini keşfetmiştir.

(3) Berik 2010 (16 dk.)

Berik, Kazakistan’ın Semey şehrinde geçen, arkadaşlık ve anlamak ile ilgili kısa bir dramı anlatır. Radyasyon zehirlenmesinden kaybettiği gözleri ve deforme olmuş bedeni ile Berik, kardeşi çalışırken evde yalnız yaşamaya mahkumdur. Taa ki 11 yaşındaki Adil, zorba bir futbolcunun kaybettiği topunu aramak üzere onun kapısına gelene kadar.

(4) Varşova Gettosunda 7 Dakika 2012 (8 dk.)

1942 yılında Varşova Gettosu. 8 yaşındaki yaramaz ve yaşam dolu olan oğlan çocuğu Samek, gettonun duarındaki delikten baktığında, diğer tarafta kaldırımın üzerinde bir havuç görür. Onu bir tel ile alabilmek için uğraşırken, kendisini adım adım takip eden SS polislerinden habersizdir.

Bu Emma’nın 13 Doğum günüdü ve babasını ziyaret etmeye gitmiştir. Babası evde değildir ancak onun erkek arkadaşı evdedir. Emma onunla daha önce hiç karşılaşmamıştır ve ikisi için de durum pek rahat değildir. Bu film, ailelerinin yeni hayatlarında çocuklarını göremeyecek kadar yoğun olmaları ile ilişkilenmiştir.

Hikaye, Afrikada’ki mülteci kampından Danimarkadaki sıkıcı günlük hayata kadar uzanan birçok elemanın  izlerini taşımaktadır. İki Danimarkalı ailenin, birbirlerinin yollarının kesişmesiyle, çok özel ama riskli bir arkadaşlık yeşermeye başlar. Ama onları, yalnızlık, kırılganlık ve hüzün beklemektedir. Çok kısa bir zamanda arkadaşlık, riskli bir birlikteliğe ve nefeskesici bir takibe dönüşürken, yaşam tehlikeye girmektedir.
