Il n'y a jamais un point final! There is
never to be a final stop!
By Heidi Trautmann
A studio full of sunshine with Rüya in the centre of it, that is how I
met her in June 2008, that is how I will remember her. She left us in 2011.
I was shocked when I heard the news of her death in France,
she never told anybody, she just closed the gate behind her. What remains with
us are her art works so full of vitality and beauty, her laughter which took
hold of her whole body; a woman, so very French, so very Cypriot, being all
this in her art.
Her studio is still the way she left it,
her sister Hulya has decided to keep it alive and open to the public as a Rüya
Resat Art Centre where cultural events and art activities will regularly take
place. Now, during the month of June starting on Wednesday the 19th
of June till June 23, art lovers are invited to come to Rüya’s studio as from
17.00 hrs to feel the atmosphere in which Rüya and her students were working together,
where her work is exhibited and where her positive nature is still perceptible.
At 19.00 hrs each day will be an activity, a talk, recital, around art
and literature. Rüya’s friends and students will be there. On Friday, June 21,
I, Heidi Trautmann, will talk about my book ‘Art and Creativity in North
Cyprus’ also reading from it the story of my talks with Rüya among others. I will
also give a preview on my new book which will include literature and theatre in
North Cyprus.
I remember her saying: “I don't accept
rules; rules, conventions, they only
prevent us from discovering ourselves. During our life we get suffocated with
them, as we grow up, they are like parasites, and it takes us most of our
active time to uncover our core, the core of things. We humans are only a tiny
part in nature, a link in the chain.”
