The Healing Colours of Cyprus - Tulay Gürzap and Pam Schofield

It is the title of their joint painting exhibition starting from October 2 to 15 inclusive in Bellapais. The healing colours…it is not the first time that I hear this … the energy in the air…the clean, translucent atmosphere that makes you want to raise your nose to sniff it, the breeze from the mountains with its scent of macchia, the fresh sea breeze. The colours become luminous, enticing the artist to try and capture some of it.

Pam Schofield and Tulay Gürzap are close friends, they work together and share their passion for going out to paint, for showing their respect for the old Cypriot culture and traditions and their love for the beauty of the island. The exhibition was opened by Undersecretary Mr Sahap Asikoglu and it was well attended.

TULAY GÜRZAP

I was born in Ankara in 1958.
I moved to Cyprus in 2005 after marrying my second husband.
He encouraged me to start painting to help me to recover from cancer treatment.
I have exhibited in four exhibitions since I began painting, this one being the fifth.
I enjoy painting in gouache, acrylic and pastel. I also get a great deal of pleasure from drawing the old Cyprus doors using pencil. One of my door drawings is a prize winner at Ozankoy Flower Show.

First president Mr Denktas also complimented me on my door drawings.

I was very excited at the opening of the exhibition but everything went well.

Undersecretary Mr Sahap Asikoglu and the visitors mentioned that they enjoyed the exhibition and that made me happy.

I want to go on painting as soon as time permits, but with a different subject.

PAM SCHOEFIELD

I come from Yorkshire, which is in the North of England. I am a self taught artist who has been painting since childhood. I spent some time studying under a prestigious artist, the late Robert Shawmarsh, in Yorkshire, England. I was a teacher of Art for 20 years and have exhibited my own work widely in the UK. Pastels and Acrylic are my preferred painting mediums but I have worked in Oils and Watercolors. I specialize in portraiture and animal pictures, but I also enjoy painting landscapes and seascapes. I have been living in North Cyprus for three and a half years and I am constantly inspired by the beauty of this magical place. In June of 2007 I won a competition at the Büyük Han with my painting of the hatchlings which is featured in this exhibition. President Talat presented me with my award and was very complimentary about my work.
