FILMS SHOWN IN ORIGINAL LANGUAGE WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES

Shake off the winter blues and brave the elements – Pharos is offering another extraordinary selection of rare eclectic films that explore universal ideas about life and death, war and peace, sanity and insanity, space and time. Films which reflec! t and complement each other. Films which are full of cross references that explore our inner and exterior landscapes – at the tools we make, from language to weapons , from the creation of our world to its destruction. The films are intended to be experienced as a whole, providing a fascinating glimpse into the human condition – the folly of its destructive tendencies as well as its creative exuberance. We start with a tribute to the great 20th century architect Oscar Niemeyer whose modernist and sensual buildings were inspired by the landscape of Rio and the shape of the female body. These films explore the great struggles of the human spirit, the search for meaning and beauty, the nature and purpose of work, the use and abuse of language and the manipulation of our senses.
