Veysi Soyer – who does not
know him? The aesthet. Mr.
GoodMorningCyprus, greeting people with his meaningful photographs. A fantastic
observer of society with a knowing smile on his face, a little ironic. A
connoisseur in matters of the arts. ……and I am sure of many other things of
life.
HE Mustafa Akinci and his wife Meral had come to witness the getting together of various art performers and opened dutifully the exhibition. They must be well informed of the contemporary art scene as I meet them at all exhibitions, festivals and music performances I go to; I pay my respect and I don't have the impression that the President is just doing his duty!
Art was in the air….with
music, poetry, ceramic images, drawings and photography….in the beautiful
courtyard of the Eaved House right in the centre of architectural witnesses of
the Middle Ages. We had gathered there and listened to fine poetry by the poet
Zeki Ali read by Ertaç Hazer. Zeki Ali was present, I know his poetry well, he and
his poetry make part of my book Art and Creativity in North Cyprus, Volume II. Burcu
Karagöz accompanied the recital on the cello, later she and Evren Karagöz
entertained us with popular songs like Dance me to the end of love by Cohen ….and
a second music group with Dr. Levent Soyer, Hüsnü Doğacan and Deniz Soyer …the
Soyers obviously are a multi-talented family.
Veysi Soyer had in mind to
show a rainbow of art forms reaching from the ancient times with ceramic
sculptures by Rauf Ersenal….boats of the island’s ancestors arriving on the
shores of Cyprus, to drawings of
today, his drawings, ironic scribbles on society, hieroglyphs of modern times and his photographs, images on a subconscious dream level. Some paintings by Tolga Özasil and Tugay A.Kader completed the range of the rainbow.
Art, I believe that he
thinks that way, is to open oneself completely with high sensitivity to one's surroundings, to be a bowl to receive and send off again; to be receiving the
timbres of music and poetry with your soul and body; to observe and understand
what is visible to the eyes and beyond, to look behind the curtains. Art is not
necessarily the practicing of an art discipline but the willingness to open up
to it and listen to the undertones.
This art event was an event
for all senses, an event of the fine undertones, not to admonish but to make
one smile.
The exhibition is still open till 06 May.
