I am very happy to announce a new exhibition of paintings by Muriel Clutten opening on Friday 1st of June at the Girne Public Library at 18:00.  She is sharing her exhibition with Martin Ashworth whose passion it is to discover art in nature, driftwood he collects and transforms, a passion which requires an attentive eye and love for nature’s random absurdities.

Muriel Clutten is known across the island not only as a fine artist but also as one of the early members of KADS (Kyrenia Amateur Drama Society). Muriel’s last solo exhibition was in September 2007 in Bellapais where she concentrated on landscapes of her immediate surroundings. For the last five years, however, she has turned her attention more and more to the human form, to people, not just on the anatomy but exploring the personality of the person in front of her. On the basis of hundreds of sketches of life drawings as a member of the Thursday Artists Group and of an art group in Cape Town, she regularly joins when visiting Cape Town, her place of birth, she has developed the 36 paintings we are going to see. From what I have seen so far, the paintings are more aggressive and freer than ever before in her artwork.

The Girne Public Library is next to the Colony Hotel’s House & Garden.

The exhibition opening is from 6 - 8 pm on Friday 1st June

Viewing times are daily from 10 am - 5 pm 2nd - 10th June
