Visual Communication and Design Department at Near East University
By Heidi Trautmann
Visual communication? Communication by visual means: photography, painting, collages, computer, digital art…for film making, TV production, journalism, advertising and what not. I read, that “the establishment of the department of communication and design has been the response to the growing need of our increasingly globalised and networked world in which mass communications and visual technologies of various kinds play a fundamental role.”
Now, as a first good deed in the new year, eight members of the teaching staff of this department – Ali Bizden, Armağan Gökçearslan, Eser Keçeci, Gamze Anil Baykan, Gazi Yüksel, Gökçe Keçeci Şekeroğlu, Mine Okur, Özden Pektaş Turgut – are showcasing their work at the Atatürk Cultural Conference Centre at the university for one week. It was opened on Friday, 10 January 2012 by the head of the department, Mrs Gökçe Keçeci Şekeroğlu and Vice Rector Mr Şenol Bektaş.
It was a well presented exhibition with three to four works by each artist which made it possible to become aware of the working philosophy and technique. All of them new works never shown in public; that and the ideas realized made them so exciting. A fresh approach.
Everything is permitted to convey the message, communication…. message understood. However, the characteristic style of each artist could be recognized when you have seen some of their exhibitions or projects before. I liked it. My compliments.
A catalogue with work details and CVs of the artists delivered the necessary information, the design of which was done by Gökçe Keçeci Şekeroğlu.
The exhibition will be open until Jan 13, visiting hours Mon-Fri until 16:00 hrs. But do look out for the receptionist should the doors be closed!
