The ongoing change of our climate will have severe consequences for all of us!
On Monday 14th January a poster exhibition about environmental issues by the famous German artist Klaus Staeck will be opened in the Goethe-Institut’s hall at 6.30 pm, followed at 7.00 pm by the screening of the film: “The Age Of Stupid” (UK; 2009; 92 min. Dir: Franny Armstrong), the first of altogether five international documentary films to be shown from 14th till 18th January at 7.00 pm in the Goethe-Institut about the environmental challenges mankind faces.

On Wednesday 23rd of January at 6.30 pm Goethe-Institut Cyprus and The Cyprus Institute will hold a public lecture by the eminent scientist and climate researcher Prof. Dr. Jos Lelieveld, director of Max Planck Institut for Chemistry in Mainz /Germany, and Institute Professor at The Cyprus Institute, about “Climate change in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East “ (in English). The lecture will be followed by a small reception. Admission is free.

On Thursday 24th January at 7.00 pm the well known film director Stephen Nugent and the cameraman Chris Lewis, who were both working for GREENPEACE during the last years to document the organisation’s activities in the arctic against industrial exploitation and environmental destruction, will present their films and inform about further planned activities to protect the arctic, prevent the melting of the pole ice caps and the deterioration of the arctic environment. Der seit Jahren sich vollziehende Klimawandel mit seinen tiefgreifenden Folgen betrifft uns alle!

Am Montag, 14.1.2013 eröffnen wir um 18.30 Uhr eine Ausstellung mit Plakaten des deutschen Künstlers Klaus Staeck, auf denen er sich kritisch mit dem Zustand unserer Umwelt auseinandersetzt. Um 19.00 Uhr zeigen wir dann als ersten einer ganzen Reihe von internationalen Dokumentarfilmen zum Thema Klima, Umwelt und Zukunft der Welt den Film „The Age of Stupid“ (Großbritannien; 2009; 92 min.) des englischen Regisseurs Franny Armstrong. Andere Filme zeigen wir dann vom 14.- 18.1.2013 jeweils um 19.00 Uhr im Saal des Goethe-Instituts. Alle Filme sind englisch untertitelt. Der Eintritt ist frei! Am Mittwoch, 23.1.2013 um 18.30 Uhr laden wir zusammen mit unserem Partner The Cyprus Institute zu einem öffentlichen Vortrag des Direktors des Max Planck Institutes für Chemie in Mainz, dem renommierten Klimaforscher Prof. Dr. Jos Lelieveld zum Thema: „Der Klimawandel im östlichen Mittelmeerraum und Mittleren Osten“ ein. Vortragssprache ist Englisch. Im Anschluß gibt es einen kleinen Empfang.

Am Donnerstag, 24.1.2013 um 19.00 Uhr werden der Filmregisseur Stephen Nugent und der Kameramann Chris Lewis, die beide in den letzten Jahren an den Aktionen von GREENPEACE zum Schutz der Arktis im Nordmeer teilgenommen und diese filmisch dokumentiert haben, ihre Filme vorstellen und über die Arbeit von GREENPEACE berichten. Auf Englisch.
