298 - There is no limit to art – Art Exhibition ‘Yüzlesme’ at the Ismet Güney Art Centre, Nicosia

By Heidi Trautmann

Yüzlesme – I cannot find a proper translation – but I think it means Confrontation, making people aware of something, a problem, and of problems we have plenty these last years.

Students of the Near East University have used the theme environment for their art work, used in the strict sense of the word, to create images of waste, actually portraits of waste, Cöp…

When I entered the Ismet Güney Art Centre on one of the last days, I impulsively said HA, you know what you say when something really surprises you. Big creations on canvas 150 x 150 cm crying out, hitting. Faces made of tiny bits of magazines, here and there black cöp bags as hair, discarded children shoes creating illusions of mimicry, plastic, computer parts used for composition, one portrait made completely of clock parts; portraits made of paper pulp.

The young artists are: Azmiye Yinal, Durcan Rujdi, Gazi Yüksel, Gözde Zalihe Emirler, Hayriye Bakir, Mehmet Sariler, Mine Korudağ, Saffet Deveci.

Experimenting widens the horizon and I can see that they had a lot of fun.
